MALTODEXTRIN
Maltodextrin is a plant-based starch sugar. It is used in a variety of ways in cosmetic formulations—for example, as an absorbent, a binder, an emulsion stabilizer, and a film-forming agent, as well as a skin care ingredient and a hair conditioner.(1) In addition, maltodextrin often serves as a carrier for active ingredients and plant extracts—for example, to improve the incorporation of the active components into the formulation.(2)
MICA
Mica is a mixture of minerals with a layered structure that can be easily split into thin platelets. In cosmetics, mica is used as a so-called effect pigment (glimmer)—for example, to create shine, shimmer, or a light-reflecting finish. Due to its optical and functional properties, mica is a popular ingredient in powders, foundations, eyeshadows, and other decorative products.(1-2)
MORINDA CITRIFOLIA CALLUS CULTURE LYSATE
Morinda citrifolia callus culture lysate is a biotechnologically derived plant extract from the cell cultures of the noni plant (Morinda citrifolia) that contains a variety of bioactive compounds. According to studies, noni exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties that can help protect against environmental stress, support the skin barrier, and reduce oxidative processes in skincare products.(1-4)
The biotechnologically derived active ingredient from noni plant stem cells works through an innovative mechanism: It inhibits bacterial communication (quorum sensing), thereby supporting the balance of the skin microbiome and helping to counteract blemishes, excess sebum, and skin redness—without disrupting the natural microbiota.(5)
MYRISTYL MYRISTATE
Myristyl Myristate is an emulsifier and a plant-based, waxy fatty acid ester. As a consistency-enhancing agent, it helps stabilize oil-in-water emulsions and improves the formulation’s texture by creating a smooth and silky consistency. This makes the emulsion easier to apply, improves absorption into the skin, and leaves the skin feeling silky and powdery.
OCTYLDODECANOL
Octyldodecanol is a long-chain fatty alcohol. In formulations, it acts as a skin conditioner and emollient, or it dissolves certain active ingredients and fragrances (solvent).(1-2)
OCTYLDODECYL MYRISTATE
Octyldodecyl myristate is an ester of myristic acid (tetradecanoic acid) and 2-octyldodecanol.(1) In cosmetic formulations, it acts as a mild emollient that makes the skin soft and supple.(2)
OLEIC ACID
Oleic acid is a monounsaturated fatty acid that acts as an emulsifier, enabling the formation of oil-in-water emulsions. Oleic acid can support wound healing by stimulating repair processes in the skin.(1) At higher concentrations, oleic acid can also increase skin permeability, thereby improving, for example, the penetration of active ingredients into the skin.(2)
