PREBIOTICS

The prebiotics ALPHA-GLUCAN OLIGOSACCHARIDES and INULIN serve as a food source for bacteria and can thus work together to support the skin’s commensal flora and strengthen the skin barrier by inhibiting the growth of unwanted bacteria on the skin. Together, they can alleviate skin symptoms such as dryness and itching.

POSTBIOTICS

The postbiotic BIFIDA FERMENT LYSATE reduces skin redness and strengthens the skin barrier by increasing the production of proteins that help stabilize the skin’s cellular structures. LACTOCOCCUS FERMENT LYSATE promotes skin renewal and accelerates the restoration of the skin barrier. It can improve the function of the skin barrier, optimize skin hydration, and regulate the skin’s pH level, which may allow the skin’s lipid-forming enzymes to function close to their optimal pH.

AHA

Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs)—lactic acid and glycolic acid—are among the most commonly used hydroxy acids in cosmetic formulations. Lactic acid can smooth the skin’s surface and increase the skin’s ceramide content by stimulating ceramide synthesis. Glycolic acid is effective in treating both hyperpigmentation and blemishes. AHAs not only promote the skin’s natural exfoliation but also help improve skin quality.

PHA

Gluconolactone is a polyhydroxy acid (PHA) and a gentle exfoliant known for its skin-smoothing and antioxidant properties. This PHA provides gentle exfoliation by loosening dead skin cells and improving skin texture without causing irritation. Gluconolactone binds water in the skin, increases skin hydration, and acts as an antioxidant.

BHA

Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that is particularly effective in treating blemishes. Due to its lipophilic properties, salicylic acid can penetrate deep into the pores and dissolve excess sebum there. This helps reduce blemishes and improve the skin’s appearance. Salicylic acid also has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe redness.

FAQ

To incorporate exfoliation into your routine, follow these steps:

  1. Cleansing: First, thoroughly cleanse the skin.
For example, with the The Ten out of Ten Gel Cleanser
  2. Exfoliation: Apply the Active Acids Exfoliating Solution to clean and, most importantly, dry skin.
  3. Application time: When using the product for the first time, be sure to leave it on for only a few minutes (3–5 minutes). For subsequent applications, the application time can be increased to a maximum of 10 minutes.
  4. Rinsing: Rinse off the scrub with lukewarm water.
  5. Moisturizing: Apply a moisturizer such as the Barrier Boost CPA Cream .
  6. Sunscreen: Be sure to use sunscreen with SPF 50 every day during the daytime for the next few days.

A fruit acid peel is a type of chemical peel that primarily uses alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) such as glycolic acid and lactic acid. These acids often come from natural sources such as fruits, milk, or sugarcane. This is where the general name "fruit acid" comes from.

Acids such as AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), PHAs (polyhydroxy acids), and BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) work on different levels of the skin. PHAs gently exfoliate the skin’s surface, AHAs promote cell renewal in the deeper layers of the skin, and BHAs combat blemishes. This synergistic effect results in a smooth complexion.

We recommend using the products in the Absolute A Series alternately with our Active Acids Exfoliating Solution chemical peel—and never on the same evening. Ideally, apply the chemical peel one evening and wait until the following evening to apply the Retinal Serum. Take a break from active ingredients on the days that follow. (Keyword: skincycling)

Yes, this exfoliator is ideal for acne-prone and blemish-prone skin because it reduces blemishes and improves skin texture.

No, it is not recommended to use products containing hydroxy acids during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. You can always find this information on our product page under NOTE: Do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Yes, the product can be used on sensitive skin, but it should be used with caution. It is recommended to perform a patch test on a small area of skin before applying the product to a larger area. In addition, when using the product for the first time, you should start with a shorter application time of 3–5 minutes.

It is recommended that you apply only a moisturizer after exfoliating and avoid using retinal or other active serums to prevent irritation.

After using the exfoliant, the skin should be soothed with a moisturizing cream such as Barrier Boost CPA Cream . It is especially important to use a sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF 50) in the days following the treatment to protect the skin from UV damage. To minimize skin irritation, do not use any other products containing AHAs, BHAs (e.g., BHA toner), or retinoids (retinal) on the same evening!

Possible side effects may include mild redness, a slight burning sensation, or tingling. These effects are usually temporary and disappear after a few minutes. However, if you experience more severe irritation, you should stop using the product immediately.

The initial effects, such as smoother and more radiant skin, are noticeable right away. An improvement in skin texture may be visible after just a few treatments, usually after about 2–4 weeks.

Chemical peels should not be used more than twice a week. It is advisable to start with a patch test on an inconspicuous area to check whether the skin reacts with redness.
