Example: If your skin has a natural protection time of 10 minutes and you want to spend 300 minutes in the sun, you’ll need at least SPF 30 (300/10 = 30). The calculation also works the other way around: natural protection time × SPF = time you can spend in the sun. With SPF 50 and a natural protection time of 10 minutes, you can theoretically spend 500 minutes in the sun—but only if the required amount has been applied correctly. This assumes that you reapply sunscreen regularly.
Important: The maximum time cannot be extended by reapplying sunscreen. Once that time has elapsed, you should stay in the shade to avoid the risk of sunburn. In addition, you should always avoid the midday sun and use clothing as sun protection—for example, by wearing a hat or long-sleeved clothing.
