Vanillin is considered a flavoring and fragrance ingredient with a pleasant vanilla note. Sensitization to vanillin is considered rare, and its sensitizing potential is considered weak. In an illustrative risk assessment of cosmetic products containing vanillin, a concentration of 0.5% vanillin was classified as safe.
